Apply in just three steps:

  1. Click Join the Queue.
  2. Choose the school you want to apply for (Every school has its own queue. You can place your child in the queue from 1 February the year after they were born).
  3. Fill in the form including your details and those of your child so that we can stay in touch and let you know if a place becomes available.
There is no exam or test for your child to pass if they would like to learn at an IES school. Places are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
Because of the way that we are funded we are only able to offer education to students registered as living in Sweden. You can apply for a place for any student who has a Swedish national identity number (personnummer), even if they have not yet moved back to Sweden. If you do not yet have a Swedish national identity number but are moving to Sweden and would still like to apply, please contact the school in question for advice.
On our website you can find all the schools we run, or those we have committed to open. If you are interested in a school we have not yet opened, please email info@engelska.se and ask to have your email address added to the list of people who would like to be informed if we announce a school in that location in the future.

Our queue runs on a first-come, first-served basis, in the interests of fairness for all. However, if your child has a sibling who currently attends the school, and if both of your children will be students at the school at the same time, then they may be entitled to advanced placement in the queue (syskonförtur). In this case please write the sibling’s Swedish ID number in the appropriate box when applying for any other children.

A number of IES schools are registered at Skolinspektionen for a possibility to dedicate a limited number of places in the queue for students who have been resident in the country for less than two years, in Swedish called "särskild kvot" which is regulated in förordning (2022:222) om särskild kvot i fristående skolor. These schools have the possibility to prioritize newly arrived students in the queue. Enrolling in the school depends on the available free spots in each year group. Please contact the school you are applying to for more information and to ask if they are registered for this possibility.

Most of our schools begin their intake for the following academic year in the autumn term. The length of the process depends on how quickly we hear back from families who are offered places.
We understand that you would like to know as early as possible whether your child has a place. However, it is difficult to give a precise answer before the school completes the intake process. We offer places based on the date on which students joined the queue, but also consider whether they will have a sibling in the school at the same time (syskonförtur).
Each school has its own queue, and it is not possible to move between them. However, it is possible to join the queue for more than one school at the same time.
Write to the school in question and let them know your queue ID number or personnummer and the information that you would like to change. You can find contact details for our schools here.
If you are offered a place and decline it, then you will lose your queue position and the place will be offered to the next student in line. If you later decide you would like a place then you will need to apply again.

You apply to the school by filling in the application form under “Join the queue”. When the application is received, it will be dated and you will be assigned a place in the line. As a guardian, you will receive an automatically generated email with an ID number sent to you. This ID number is important to save for continued contact with the school. If you do not receive this email, please contact the school as your application may not have been received.

In December 2023, the places are offered in the line order for the coming academic year. The only exception we can give, is if you have more childrens at school, so-called sibling preference. IES Västerås emails the admission notices to those children who may start the next academic year.

In March 2024, invitations to our workshop will be emailed to all admitted students for the following school year. You must RSVP to this event, further information to come. The workshop will be held at IESVästerås on Saturday, April 27th from 10-12, 2024.

In week 10, kommuns are informed of all admitted students in freeschools. After this they will offer all kommunal school places. From week 10 if you accepted enrollment with us, your transfer will be scheduled together with Västerås Stad.

In May 2024, enrollment documents are mailed home to all admitted students. These must be filled in by both guardians and returned to the school. If you have not yet sent in your copy of previous grades/knowledge requirements and a personbevis please add them in with these documents.

In July 2024, information regarding school start and login information for SchoolSoft is mailed home.
